Hand Embroidery (One-day workshop)

  • Void Gallery 312 Avenue B South Saskatoon, SK, S7M 1M6 Canada (map)

An introduction to hand embroidery, Sunday, May 27th, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. No experience necessary.

Freestyle surface hand embroidery is a technique where needle and thread are used to create an image on fabric. A variety of stitches are employed, forming different textures and effects within a design. Hand embroidery has been practiced for centuries and continues to be a popular art practice in modern times, with many artists using historical techniques to create fibre art that is relevant today.

During this one-day workshop, participants will be introduced to the materials and techniques used for hand embroidery. They will have the opportunity to learn different groups of stitches, transfer a drawing or pattern onto fabric to be stitched, and create a freehand embroidery piece. The class will also discuss different ways to display embroidery, including securing a finished piece in an embroidery hoop.
